SC flatback project
« on: May 16, 2014, 09:50:23 PM »
I've just acquired this old 22' flatback that was abandoned.   There is no serial number on it, but I was hoping for some advice on what I just bought. I'm assuming it is a 1960's hull, but regardless I'm excited about the project.

My pictures have too many pixels to upload- I will figure a way to get them uploaded.

Thanks

You can create a photobucket account. Once loaded click on edit photo and resize to 640*480 or 480*640. Once done, click on board link copy and paste link here.

No hid number means it is prior to nov 72 when required. My 72 does not have a HID just a ser#. A letter and 3 digits. Congrats on the find. You have a great boat on your hands.
As always this thread is useless without boat porn

If you upload your pix to your gallery on this site (follow the link on how to post pix, in every forum near the top) the site will size them correctly for you automatically and then following the same instructions you can easily post them in this topic.

Congrats on the find.

Excellent! She may not look like much right now, but could end up queen of the fleet. Good on you, you found a hottie. And the cool thing is, no one else around there knows what you have

In the meantime, let's go squirrel hunting....5 bucks for every tree rat we can get to land in the boat!!

Great job Aaron on the pics post. Was trying to throw a few in here for the boys, but couldn't get the slide show to settle down enough to copy. Thanks :thumright:

Question:

When you bought her, how was she listed on the SC registration? That is, manufacturer/model/year.

Asking because judging by her looks....you may have an early model, ie '66/'67.  Coburn and Sargent may be shown as manufacturer on the registration rather than Aquasport.

Provenance adds value. Whatever you can find in terms of original owner, original dealer, etc. all the better. As a for instance...spend some time and check out the history of our current flatback rebuilds here.

Looking forward to your build!

An older gentleman owned the boat, passed away and left it on his property.  Several years later, his children sold the land with the boat on it.  The current owners have sold it to me.  SC does have some records on it (mostly property tax records), but the last time it was registered is 1999.  She is going to mostly be a harbor cruiser/ family beach boat with light duty fishing.  I've been searching for a simple boat, shallow draft, pushes easy, and has sexy lines- Finally found it!

cool boat, I really like that rail around the console.
Have you gotten it off that trailer yet?  Looks a little bent behind the axles, might wanna check how straight the hull bottom is?
I picked up something with about as many leaves inside, a quick blast down the highway cleared out most of them but the critters held on.  Bleach is a wonderful thing.

I am moving her this week to a working trailer for a serious scrub / bleach and then off to a repair yard. Surprisingly, the floor only has a couple soft spots in it, but will know more as they dig into it. Transom is shot. The rail on the console looks original, but I've never seen another one like it- but I'm a novice on aquasports

The deck on your boat may sag in places after all these years, but won't have any soft spots. It is 3/8th's inch solid fiberglass. No core, no wood....solid glass.

Not worth saving on a rebuild, unless you want to keep her original.  But interesting nonetheless....especially for the sixties.

Looking forward to your build :thumleft:
