Clean as a Whistle

Got back my pressure washer today and decided to go to town.

I think I just made $1000.

I started with this:





And ended with this:









I have no idea what the old man was thinking with those seats and table.

I would guess this boat to be worth maybe $2750-$3000 now.

Not bad for $1750 eh?

Simple Green will show you the way! My cleaner since 84' next 50/50 bleach in a spray bottle. She`ll be your new first date....

Tuesday bridge game sitting at the dock..."But at least I'm on my boat!"

Excellent job!  Love that splashwell closeout config.  That is well done.  Now, time to clean up the engine rigging and splashwell stuff.  Any room to move the batt switch and fuel/water separator indoors?

SWEET!

Now that see the pics, have answered the question about the seat boxes.

The commercial guys love that Tohatsu.

What's your feeling of finding a couple of used fiberglass boxes, take the seats off the stanchions (etc., etc., ) and give you a place to mount the batts amidships, plus you'd have more good storage, seats on top?

Thanks guys.

No Simple Green 100% pressure washer, 3000psi with 20 deg tip. I tried the 0 deg on the bottom paint and blew a chunk of glass out. OUCH. Not bad though.

Yes the rigging and motor work is next. Got a buddy coming up from Morro Bay this weekend and we're going to hopefully finish that off and give her a dunk on Sunday.

The motor runs. Before I purchased I checked everything. Compression 140-140-140-135. Nice blue spark jumping a 5/16 gap on all four and as soon as we got gas to the motor she fired right up in three cranks. I do have to replace the fuel separater, lines and bulb. Oh, also had clean oil, no water or metal, in lower unit and she shift Fwd/Nut/Rev.

I think I'll be good.

Interesting, Tohatsu is commercial grade? Or just cheap and easy to replace? I know nothing about these motors. Ordering the factory manual today if I can find it. Actually I'm also trying to sell this motor and an '85 Merc 75hp to buy a 225 hp. Maybe I can hook them both up and get 215 hp. AWESOME!!!! kidding.

Forgot, yes I am looking at making/purchasing boxes to replace the seat pedestals.

This will make use of the space below the seat, add a few more feet of butt space and provide dry storage and kill box.

I thought they were standard on these boats. Guess not. If I can't find them I might modify two white coolers too...that might look a little funny though.

Else, wood/glass/paint.

Tohatsu and Nissan I believe are the same engine manufacturer made in Japan. The Tohatsu`s I've seen were beat badly by some commercial guys I know and they ran extremely well and reliably. They are a very simple design somewhat reminding me of old Chrysler in line 4 designs. These engines have a very loyal following and I`m surprised they dont have more market share in this country. Make sure this engine is oil injected and not a 50-1 pre-mix engine before you fuel her up. They are not bells and whistles motors and think that is why they are so reliable.

I know mine has been very faithful.  Starts Right up first try, every time.  I've only had  to replace a few minor things, other than that, Awesome.
Fitz, Im almost positive that motor is oil injected (unless someone disconnected it) as the oil reservoir is under the cowling.  You can see the access door on top of the cowling.

Yes it is oil injected. I have to go through that before i start her too.

Whats the SOP for the oil tank maintenance? Empty, clean, inspect filter/screen, clean tubing...what else? I dont have the manual yet.

Any source on a PDF manual?
