240/246 Inboard Rebuild
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:17:21 PM »
Well, I am going back at it after getting daughter one halfway through college......I have a 246 CC with a straight inboard......all wiring has been replaced, before a long layup....almost all of the plumbing as well........tomorrow starts the re-cleaning of everything, inventory of wire set up, plumbing and what is in need of finishing....then on to the floor.....

Does anyone have pics of their inboard 240?..

Do a search for JimCt posts - he as an I/O 240 and an straight inboard 22-2.  Those pics may help a bit.

Good luck!

Pics would help.  Does it have any badges on the sides of the hull in the rear?

Looks like a 240 Sea Hunter with factory tower.

There was one for sale in our Classified forum and was subsequently bought by a member here. They (I thought) started a rebuild thread but I can't seem to find it. Another(?) member posted awhile back asking about advice on changing the inboard gas motor to diesel so...
There are members with this model on board.

I do know that boat.  It was CaptTater's old ride, no?  That thing has a ton of potential, good luck!

Yes, Tater and I entered into a purchase agreement a few Years ago. I started the restore, then had a financial disaster....in addition, several life changing family problems arose and I put my daughter in college....long story short....the boat went into storage and Tater gave a pass on our arrangment......now it's time to finish the boat, restart my commitment and get on with life.

I have a early 70's 240 that I am(slowly) rebuilding. Mine is the seahunter, with the side console and little cabin up front. It appears that mine was an io originally, then it was changed to an outboard, an OMC seadrive. I am going to rebuild mine back as a diesel center console. I am going to leave the cuddy upfront, and shorten the bench seats up front. Kinda like a Dorado 30'.

kinda like that boat. I want to put a prop pocket on the transom to make it a little shallower draft. I want to put an old 453T detroit under the console. I thought about jackshafting it back to an outdrive, but those engines will make alot of torque, any diesel does, and I hear that they will break an outdrive.

I really want a drive similar to this...

that seems to be an articulating surface unit, running a subsurface prop, just behind a nice size prop pocket. I cannot justify the $$ for an articulating drive like that...but I would sure love one. I think that guy built his own.

I am hoping to have this boat done inside of three months. We will see! I ran a tape measure over her....23' 8". No cuddy like the Sea Hunt.....inboard 350 under the console, forward casting deck with two lockers and a fish box in the floor......when she is done, she will have new lighter colored paint, teak covering boards on the gunnels, ice blue colored interior paint with slightly darker or lighter nonskid, tower with controls and instead of the console, I am considering a low profile motor box with cushion.... :thumright:

Yours looks like the 240 center console. That is a nice looking hull, the colors you are talking about will look good on the hull.

This link is to a    terntwo 24's photogallery. The gallery for this site is broken, and you cannot search, but I found this one a while back.
You can message him for info on his boat, he gave me a few tips on mine. He has a 240 center console...in the picture.
