Downriggers
« Reply #15 on: March 11, 2008, 11:48:34 PM »
John,
Enclosed are pics of the downrigger mounts I have on my 17'.  They work fine.  However, when I install the mounts on my 20'CCP, I'm going to add a eye that I can fasten a cable to act as a safety should "moby :*: Striper" try & steal the rig with a VERY solid hit.
On my 20', I'm going to install the mount in Front of where your cleat is.

Fiberglass outriggers

Rick had questioned the use of fiberglass outriggers with planers.  I had not tried that before, so I tried it yesterday.  Ran the 15' outriggers out and put a Sea Striker #1 planer on the end.  Here's how it looked at a 5 MPH troll - that's what I usually run:

Seems to work OK - you might have to work with the release clip a bit, depending on whether you run the clip on the planer or use the self-release planer.  As you can see, there's plenty of "backbone" left in the outriggers.

See ya on the water!
