1987 Aquasport 170 - Rebuild (I hope) and Intro
« on: July 31, 2018, 11:17:31 AM »
 Good Day!  So I am new to the forum and it appears to be rich with information.  I recently picked up a 1987 170 with a rather soft floor.  The previous owner had his Yamaha 115 4-stroke stolen off of it and decided to let it go.  I have never rebuilt a boat and have minimal fiberglass knowledge.  But, I am willing to give it a try.   I am also not a forum poster but lets give that a try as well.  This is my first rebuild and forum thread  :huh02:  Feel free to provide pointers along the way and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.  Thanks in advance!

Where is it soft?  How large of an area?  There are options aside from fully tearing things up.  If you were to fully tear things up I'd be inclined to do more than just the floor maybe... Depending on hull weight, fuel tank state. etc

Welcome aboard ARMY  :solSal: (10 year ARMY Veteran myself)
Use this method to post pics - there are no size limits limits  https://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=12725.0

When you're ready to start a rebuild or refresh topic look for the Osprey rebuilds forums.  As mentioned earlier, you may be able to inject epoxy into the floor to stiffen it back up for a few years - so there are other alternatives to just breaking out the saw.  Spend some time in the rebuild forums and also take note of the sticky topics at the top of each forum.

I injected the deck of my 1987 170 a few years ago and it's been holding up great. I have three videos of it on YouTube. Just search for wingtimerv7 on youtube.

Welcome!
We will do our best to help you. I was also a bit scared when I started cutting in my boat.
