Picked up my T Top and Leaning Post today.  They turned out great, solidly engineered and good looking too.

As far as the boat goes, I've been filling gouges and prepping the bottom, but I've hit a bit of a snag, 2 snags really.  Number 1, there is a but of a hollowing of the hull aft, not a full hook.  The keel and chines are strait, but there are 1/8" deep hollows in the v portion of the hull for about 3' aft.  Number 2, There are quite a number of tiny voids in the gel coat.  They're not blisters in that they don't bubble up.  They're like little chips where the gel coat flakes off leaving a small void.  I've been treating them like blisters, dremeling them out and filling with cabosil & epoxy mix.  The problem is that every time I sand the filled sections flat, new voids appear.  I'm debating weather to continue to address these problems from under the boat, or flip the hull to focus un the bottom.

T-top and leaning post look great - the T-top seems huge.
If you have any desire to flip the boat, now is the time to do it.  It'll make working the bottom so much easier.

Yeah the top is on the large side for a 20 footer.  I wanted plenty of shade, and I hate the look of a top that is too small.  I think with the high gunwales on the CCP, the top should be in scale to the boat.

I am definitely leaning toward the flip.  It will make getting the bottom right, so much easier. I want it right the first time.   I’m thinking about a gantry. Rick, I checked out your flip on your 170, but I couldn’t figure out what you did with the hoists.

I'm not sure what you mean - "with the hoists".
Making gantries are pretty simple - I used 2x8 PT.  The key during any flip is to make sure the lifting point/weight is directly under gantries.

On the front I had an old cable winch and the front just raises and lowers, on the back I bought a couple chain falls at Harbor Freight (I'll give you a great deal on them). I crossed the chain falls in the aft connecting to each eye.

You start by lifting the boat and once all the points have been lifted to clear everything (I actually had to pull the trailer out to get enough clearance) then the work begins and all the work is done in the aft. You let one chainfall out as you take in the other and the front lift point just follows what you're doing. I put a blanket around the cable to protect the boat up front.
The flip goes easy and pretty quickly using the chainfalls.

You have to plan the support system that you'll land the boat back on - I supported the sole and stringers from the inside and on top of the trailer

Fast forward and the bottom and hull sides are done

This time I used an engine mount hole to lift and then we spun the boat from a center point - seemed to be easier

All back upright

Thanks, Rick that’s really helpful. So the single eyebolt for a pick point worked better than the crossed chains.  I’m thinking I could use my bracket holes to bolt a 2x8 across my transom and rig an eyebolt.  I’d need to beef things up a bit for the close to 2k weight of the CCP.  Did the overhang at the bow cause any problems for you?

I may take you up on the chain hoists.  Though getting them from Tampa to Orlando might be the costly bit.

Maybe not as much as you think.

Send him a PM, he just might be in the center of the State in the near future but I'm not sure when. You might be able to hook up.

Worth a try.

Yeah my 170 is probably lighter than when it had all that  wood coring in it - maybe not.  I would say under a grand.
Maybe check out a close by boat yard that already has metal gantries and see what they would charge you?

I'm at that stage where I'm putting it on then sanding most of it off.  I've been working on fairing the cap, and after about 4 passes with fairing compound I'm getting close.  Applied some tracer and took a long board too the aft cap, and it's looking pretty good.

I still have a few lows to fill in the transom cap and along the gunwales.  This tracer makes the lows obvious.

I put corners along the aft gunwales.  Once I get all the plains fair, I'll hit them with a block to create a radius that matches the Aquasport radius forward.

I am always excited to see these projects going into the cosmetics stages. They are like what once was a rough stone about to come out of the polisher. I have a feeling this thing is going to be a gem.

Thanks for the kind words and confidence, Funsmith.  It is good to have moved past the major glass work.  I’m beginning to see the light.  I have to confess though, I wouldn’t be disappointed if elves snuck in and finished all my fairing overnight.

I put two coats of high build on the cap.  It took two days because it rained late in the day on Thursday.  With a day off for work, I sanded the first layer with 120 grit before re-coating.  There are a few pin holes that will require attention, plus the primer revealed some sections along the aft gunwales that will require additional fairing.  The plan is to finish that work up, build a couple of gantries and assemble the team for the flip.  I'll finish painting the cap after the flip and hull bottom work..
