Flatback 22-2 Rebuilds / Re: 1970 Flatback 222 - Barn find Revival
« Last post by Ulysses485 on Today at 10:22:14 AM »
Well there goes another year and some. I guess as I get older, summers are too much to bare in Florida when working in the heat. Fall and Winter were fairly productive. Got all the foam removed (Winter of 2023), pressure washed a few times, transom gutted out (winter 2024) , everything grinded down for the most part, and center stringer removed.

Photo Dump from progress since last post ! haha...

I love the leaning post, Did someone local make that? please keep the progress reports coming!
Larro

Thanks, Larro - Yes, the leaning post was made locally (Eliot, ME), Bouchard Marine Fabrications. Jared is great to work with.
I got rid of the bulky fiberglass leaning post/livewell in favor of this one. He did a great job with it. It's sized for a slide-out cooler underneath. A slightly smaller livewell will be moved back to the closed-in transom area.

Meanwhile, I did find a photo with a slightly better view of the stringer area you were asking about.. from back when I was fitting deck pieces.

Thanks for looking, Paul

Paul, thanks for answering my question, I have a similar issue with my 20 Osprey, the stringer was cracked from the gas tank coming loose and wearing on it. I love the leaning post, Did someone local make that? please keep the progress reports coming!

 :welcome01: aboard Fabrizio.
On the outside of the transom you should be able to find a "Stamp" in the gelcoat that looks something like this - this is called the Hull ID number or HIN. Mine is on the starboard side.

This is from my Explorer - the last 2 digits on the top line is the year it was made = '92, and the 2nd line is the model = 230.  See if you have something like that on your boat.

I'm Fabrizio from Rome, owner of 19.6 Aquasport with a 1990 Evinrude 120.
I have been a happy owner since 1994 but I don't know what year it was built. I attach some photos.
I also need advice on how to mount a windlass and a bow roller and how to re-power it but I don't know where to ask. Sincerely Fabrizio

22-2 Rebuilds / Re: Foam stringers or coosa ?

Personally I would stick with Trapezoidal Stringers. The boat was designed that way and believe that if the stringers were narrow, the hull bottom would need to be thicker to prevent cracking considering the pressures across the span between stringers. Im no engineer but have a few ongoing similar projects and put this to thought on my 222 Flatback at times. Hope that helps.
