222 rebuild--Supporting the gunwale--Need advice
« on: October 26, 2018, 10:00:04 AM »
I'm moving forward with my 84 222 rebuild and need advice on how to support my gunwales (gunnels).  The original rod holders are long gone and as a result the gunwales are a little floppy.   I've searched for a thread but can's seem to find one that is helpful.   Can someone direct  me to a thread or give me a quick course in options for supporting the gunwales.  Thanks, South River

PS  I've already taken the cap off and replaced the rotten plywood on the underside and reglassed that area.

You have lots of options.  Here’s what I did with my CCP:

so you have rod holders in the rear? what material did you use for the rod holder??  and are they glassed in??  Thanks so much.  For some reason, I'm having a problem with this...

I had some left over 2”  divynecel from my bulkheads, so that’s what I used.  Thinner foam, honeycomb or plywood would have worked as well.  They’re glassed in, and an elephant could tap dance on my gunwales.
