I would say there is no difference except the new badge/decal - here is a catalog sheet on the 250

Are the stringers the same? I ask because I am going to rip the deck off and redo it with coosa and redo the transom (close in and add a Armstrong bracket for twins) I also saw a 246 is rated at 280 and the 250 is rated for 300.

Odds are the 246 and the 250 are the same boat with some very minor changes... if any besides the name.  For example the 245 Explorer and the 250 Explorer are the same boat... only the stickers are different.

Also the difference in HP rating probably has to do with the outboard engines of the day.  They just didn't make very powerful outboards back then.

I would agree they are pretty similar. I've got a 246CCP and have only seen 250CCP's in pictures but they look identical to me other than some styling changes.

As far as power, I think I've seen a picture of a 246CCP with twin 140's which would get you to the 280 max HP rating. I don't know if they had 150HP motors in the late 70's and early 80's or if the 140's were just more common. Possibly by the time they changed the boat to the 250CCP, 150HP motors were more of the norm or even 300HP motors were being produced more frequently.

I've got a 200HP 2 stroke on mine and while I cruise at 28mph(ish) and top out at around 40mph, I do wish it had a little more. I think 250HP would be great or if you are going with twins, two 150's would be all the power you would ever need.

The deep V models have some huge stringers in them.  You can look through some of the rebuilds and get a glimpse of them.  All glass too.  There was a member that had a CCP that did exactly like you're wanting to do.  Look through the rebuilds.

Thanks for the response, I have seen the rebuilds and that's where I got my inspiration from. I wish I could have bought the one NAVY CWO  sold.  I wonder how a set of 115 4stoke Yamaha's would push a 246 with a bracket?
